Moving a service business from spreadsheets to one platform

A spreadsheet can start a business. It cannot be the only memory of one.

Moving a service business from spreadsheets to one platform fails when you only import a list of names. The sheet was never just names. It was the book, the remaining balances, who did the work, and a column nobody trusted. BOC replaces that path for appointment-based businesses: schedule, customer file, cashier, then reports. It does not replace your accountant’s full ledger, and it does not add a customer booking portal you did not ask the desk to defend.

Migrate the path, not the archaeology

Start with services and prices the desk already says. Add staff. Book this week on the calendar. Put remaining balances on the visit, not in a parallel sheet. Attach files to the person. Export from BOC later so you know you can leave. Do not wait for a perfect historical rebuild before the next customer walks in.

Key takeaway Replace the path the team already walks, not the colour of the cells.

What usually stays in a sheet too long

The book. The till. The “who still owes”. The list of who did not come. Those four belong in one workspace. Fancy charts can wait. Daily reporting is useful once those four are honest. Until then, a dashboard is a costume.

A two-week cutover

Week one: setup, staff logins, this week’s appointments, today’s cashier. Week two: stop writing the old sheet except as a backup you should not need. If someone still keeps a private column, you have not finished. Start a free trial and run the cutover on a real week, not on a demo slide.

Questions

Will BOC import every old spreadsheet column automatically?

Treat migration as a path: services, staff, this week’s book, balances, files. Historical archaeology can follow. You can export from BOC when you want a file back.

Does moving to BOC include customer self-booking?

No. Staff keep the calendar. Spreadsheets are replaced by a shared staff workspace, not by a public portal.
